psalm 27 pastoral prayer

and silent friends, This is the outcome that so many of us prayed for, and we praise you for your faithfulness and providence. And we ask not on our own merits, but on behalf of your Son, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You are the God of the past, the present, and the future. We pray that, where possible, perpetrators can be reconciled with their victims. Father, we pray for those affected financially and economically by this crisis. Help us to be effective in reaching those people you have put into our lives with the good news of Jesus. You protect us and surround us with songs of deliverance. With graduation season upon us, we pray for those among us who will be graduating in the next several weeks. Father we have also seen the incredible power on display this last week through Hurricane Mathew. In your mercy, help us to hear you. As we begin to see you as our Provider, it can only lead to increase our satisfaction in you. Inspire us and teach us in how to know and be known, how to love and be loved, how to serve and be served, how to celebrate and be celebrated, and how to admonish and be admonished. Please stamp this deep into our thinking no matter what comes our way. Show us the relief that comes with slowing down our pace as we discover the internal rest of the gospel. May you be guiding them through this process so the greatest kingdom impact will be made with the resources we have. Thank You that in it we can learn the truth of who You are and what You’ve done, and of who we are and what we are called to do. You trusted his provision and direction and protection day by day, moment by moment, when you walked this earth. As we seek to spread your Word, we ask that you would look upon us with favor and cause your name to be magnified. May their faithfulness in loving and serving those around them bear Gospel fruit in the months and years to come. For those of us this morning wrestling with pain and questions we do not know how to understand, may we find comfort in the fact that You know. In all things, near and far, we pray that Jesus Christ would be magnified, for our good and for your glory. Please help the logistics of their move to Minnesota go smoothly. Father, we lay our lives before you wholly, with simple faith. By the power of the Holy Spirit, help us to distinguish your voice from the false gods that call out to us all day long. We pray this in the powerful name of Jesus. May we see you more clearly this week in everything. It shall not be poured on the body of an ordinary person, and you shall make no other like it in composition. Thank you, Lord. Thank you for this example of steadfastness that so many of us can strive to be like. Help us to experience righteous anger that emerges from holy grieving. May we who are single also follow in your footsteps, Lord—you who know firsthand the challenges, joys, and honor of living a single life. May the teaching that they receive from Scripture be very nourishing and equipping to them. We especially thank you for his life, his death, his victorious resurrection and ascension, and the hope of his return. May all that is said and done in this worship gathering today make him look beautiful to us. We give you thanks for this new GC, for these people who are eager to step into disciple making relationships with one another. We are glad that you are the ultimate judge of the earth and not any human leader. We pray for organizations like Union Gospel Mission who seek to serve both physical and spiritual needs in our community. Father of us all, you have seen and heard our vows as a congregation in the dedication ceremonies of these children. The clouds are your chariot. God of justice and truth, we know that as good Minnesotans we too often value keeping the peace as a supreme good. Engage both our minds and hearts. As we enter Holy Week, our Psalm reading today comes from Psalm 31:9-16. We are narrower in our mercy than you are. And like them, we, too, are called to praise you; men and women, young and old; our lives are designed to be a song that makes you beautiful to everyone we know. Encourage them that nothing they have said or done to another person is too much for the blood of Christ to cover, and nothing that has been said or done to them is beyond the power of His healing. Heavenly Father, today we give you thanks for your abundant provision.     and turned from your fierce anger. God, are you showing us that people matter and things don’t? Give those in authority a greater desire to listen to various viewpoints with a desire to truly understand. Most worthy of praise. Thank you, Lord. As you fix our eyes on you, give us pleasure in giving freely of our money, time, resources and treasures. We lift up parents with regrets, hurting parents, those who wished or still wish to be parents, but are not, and those who have no children of their own. Through you everything was created, and through you everything is sustained. Please help each of us here to understand and experience your deep love a little more during our time here this morning. Give strength, health, comfort, closure, and much fruit from this important venture. You watch out for those of our society that need a hand, and you uphold those who have a sincere devotion to you. We pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ around the globe who are unable to have this freedom. Please give them a sense of your love right now in this time in this place. Praise be to your name! We also pray for the relief efforts taking place in Puerto Rico, Florida and Texas. Some have sinned against their own body, some have sinned against the body of another. We come to you today, not as a crowd of individuals but as your people, as your congregation, as the sheep of your pasture. Lord in the spirit of what the Apostle Paul anguishes over in Romans 7, forgive us for that which we’ve done and that which we’ve failed to do. Most of them do not see it this way, God. May we vote prayerfully, but may we also do so with a shrug, knowing that you are our true King. We bring to you our We pray that the words of this psalm would be characteristic of this local church: “One generation commends your works to another; they tell of your mighty acts.” In a world that increasingly views children as a burned—as an impediment to freedom—we pray that you would help us to love and shepherd our children and students well. When we wander and are lost, when we have no hope, remind us of your goodness. We pray that you continue to guide our church as we discern what the next steps will look like. Show us the beauty of your Son and grow a deeper longing in our hearts for when that day comes that our waiting is over, that day when we no longer must wait for your coming in glory, that day when every tear is wiped away, every wrong is made right, and our mouths are filled with laughter, and our tongues with songs of joy. We thank you for his trust in you and his passionate life of prayer and praise. Lord, we lift up those in our congregation who are facing trials that seem insurmountable. We ask you, God, to make Jesus more beautiful and more compelling to us than the stuff that consumes our time and schedules. Teach us to live in your presence and under your rule.
